Cleantech Financing Eligibility Criteria for Project Sponsors

Cleantech Financing Eligibility

Most cleantech funding enquiries fail on readiness rather than on merit. Klean Capital publishes the shape of what it looks for so sponsors can judge their own position honestly before they spend months preparing a submission that was never going to clear.

The project itself

Eligible projects sit in the sectors the firm actually understands: waste-to-energy and energy-from-waste, resource recovery and recycling, wind generation, solar generation, and commercial property suited to sale and leaseback. Within those sectors the technology must be demonstrable. A process that has run at commercial scale somewhere, under conditions comparable to the proposed site, is financeable. A process that exists only as a simulation is a research exercise and needs research capital, not project capital.

Revenue and counterparties

Contracted revenue carries more weight than forecast revenue. For a conversion plant that normally means a gate-fee or feedstock supply agreement on one side and a power purchase, heat supply or commodity offtake agreement on the other, each with a counterparty whose credit can be assessed. Merchant exposure is not disqualifying, but it has to be sized, priced and visible in the model rather than buried in an optimistic base case.

Sponsor, site and permits

Klean Capital expects a sponsor with relevant operating or development experience and meaningful capital of its own at risk. Site control should be documented through freehold title, a long lease or a signed option. Planning consent, environmental permits and grid or interconnection rights should be either granted or on a defined, evidenced path, because consent risk is the single most common reason an otherwise sound plant never reaches financial close.

Documentation that moves an enquiry forward

A reviewable file includes a feasibility study or bankable technical report, a financial model with stated assumptions, the draft or executed contracts, the permitting status, and a clear statement of how much capital is sought and what it buys. Klean Industries can prepare feasibility studies, design and engineering packages and energy and waste audits where a sponsor's file is incomplete, and Klean Capital Inc. is wholly owned by Klean Industries, so that technical work and the funding conversation stay joined up.

Where flexibility exists

Instruments are combined case by case across private equity, debt, mezzanine and PPP funding, and operating assets can also be acquired outright through succession plans. Eligibility is therefore a judgement about bankability, not a checklist with a single pass mark.

Test your project against the criteria before you raise

Klean Capital assesses technology maturity, contracted revenue, sponsor equity, site control and permitting status across waste-to-energy, resource recovery, wind and solar projects.

Klean Industries offers feasibility studies, due diligence, energy and waste audits and turn-key EPC (DBC) delivery, and Klean Capital Inc. is wholly owned by Klean Industries.
