Klean Capital

Cleantech Financing for Clean Energy and Resource Recovery Projects

Cleantech Financing

Klean Capital arranges project capital for clean technologies that turn waste, wind and sunlight into saleable energy and recovered commodities. Since 1998 the firm has raised funding for over a hundred different transactions, and that transactional history shapes every new mandate rather than forcing a sponsor into a single off-the-shelf product.

The two markets we fund

The first is the sale and leaseback of commercial property, where an owner-occupier releases trapped equity without surrendering operational control of the building it trades from. The second is the funding of new game-changing clean technologies: waste-to-energy and energy-from-waste plants, resource recovery and recycling facilities, wind farms and solar generation. Both markets answer to the same underwriting logic. Contracted revenue, a credible operator, and an asset that retains value independently of the sponsor's balance sheet.

Instruments combined case by case

Klean Capital works with private equity, senior and subordinated debt, mezzanine capital and public-private partnership (PPP) funding. These are combined case by case, because a first-of-a-kind conversion plant and a repeat-build solar portfolio carry very different risk profiles and should not carry the same capital stack. Where an asset is large and genuinely contracted, the firm arranges Private Placement Investment Grade Bonds placed directly with institutional investors who are structured to price long-dated cash flows rather than short-horizon equity risk.

Ownership routes for sponsors

Developers who want capital without losing the project work with Klean Capital on a joint venture basis, so that funding, engineering judgement and commercial risk sit together on the same side of the table. The firm also purchases existing operational cleantech and waste-conversion projects through succession plans, which gives founders and early backers a defined exit while the plant keeps running, keeps its staff and keeps serving its offtake contracts.

Why industrial sponsors come to Klean

Klean Capital Inc. is wholly owned by Klean Industries, so a funding enquiry is read by people who build and operate these plants, not only by people who price them. The group offers feasibility studies, design and engineering, due diligence and turn-key EPC (DBC) delivery, which means technical assumptions can be tested before a term sheet is drawn rather than after.

Capital structured around the asset, not the template

Klean Capital combines private equity, debt, mezzanine and PPP funding case by case across waste-to-energy, resource recovery, wind and solar projects.

Klean Capital Inc. is wholly owned by Klean Industries, and the firm has raised funding for over a hundred different transactions since 1998.
